The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, there’s always an outcry for introducing of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and delight the hearts of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some logic titles scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
